Frequently Asked Plumbing Questions

Many people know very little about the plumbing on their properties, which is why when something isn't functioning properly, it can be difficult to determine the severity. We have compiled a number of different frequently asked questions when it comes to the signs to look for when you may be experiencing trouble with your plumbing, and need to reach out for plumbing services to our emergency plumber. We do not want you to ever feel in the dark when it comes to such a crucial part of your home or business, which is why we always recommend our clients to air on the side of caution.

Why is my toilet constantly running?

There are a few reasons a toilet keeps running. Sometimes the water height in the tank needs to be adjusted. A flapper is leaking and needs replacement or sometimes the refill tube needs to be shortened.

Why is my hot water running out so quickly?

While there are many reasons that your hot water is in short supply, here are a few of the common causes:

  • Sediment build up
  • Broken dip tube
  • Your hot water tank is more than 10 years old
  • Issues with the power supply

Why are my drains always getting clogged?

Ideally the only elements that should be going down drains are water and soap, but obviously we don’t live in a plumbing perfect world. Hair, lint, and dirt are all common contributing factors to pipe blockage. If you are constantly unclogging your drains and your house is older, it may be time to have your home re-piped. If your house is newer and you are still experiencing blockages, you may not be getting in far enough when you go to unclog the drain. Try using a longer snake.

Should I be using drain cleaners?

Drain cleaners should be used sparingly. Not only are they extremely toxic to humans and pets, but they can also damage your pipes when used too often. It’s best to use a snake first to dislodge blockages.

What should I do in the event of the pipe burst?

When a pipe bursts always remember to put safety first. Be aware of your surroundings especially if there are electrical wires or fixtures nearby. Try to locate the main water valve and shut it off. Usually the main valve is located in a basement or mechanical room. This should immediately stop the flow of water. Then, contact us for emergency plumbing services and we will dispatch a plumber to your Greensboro property.
